Linda Fitzgibbon

PhD, Individualized Program

Project Title: Home away from Home: Memory and Identity in the Irish Diaspora in Canada.

Linda is exploring the idea of cultural identity or cultural memory in the Irish diaspora in Canada. The specific aim of her research is to explore the Irish identity or sense of ‘Irishness” amongst post-war Irish immigrants in Ontario and Quebec. A number of the Irish who immigrated in the 1950s now belong to Irish Seniors Groups which continue to receive funding from the Irish Government. Linda will explore the life stories of members of these groups and consider the ways in which the Seniors Groups function as memory communities.
